Engagement invitation wording: ring ceremony, sagai, roka
Engagement ceremonies go by different names — ring ceremony, sagai and roka in North India, sakharpuda (साखरपुडा) in Maharashtra, nichayathartham in Tamil families — but the invitation is the same: two families announcing that their children are to be married.

Common questions
What is the difference between roka and sagai?
A roka is the first, often small, ceremony where the families formally agree to the match. The sagai or ring ceremony, where rings are exchanged, is usually larger and is the one most families send invitations for.
Is sakharpuda the same as an engagement?
Yes. Sakharpuda (साखरपुडा) is the Marathi engagement ceremony, named after the sugar exchanged between the families.
Can I add our photo?
Yes, upload it in the editor and it appears on the names slide of the video.
